Palm vein technology is one of the upcoming methods of biometrics.. It is highly secure because it uses information contained within the body and is also highly accurate because the pattern of veins in the palm is complex and unique to each individual. Veins are internal in the body and it has a lot of differentiating features. So forgery is extremely difficult and thereby it produces a high level security .
It works by capturing a person’s vein pattern by radiating it with infrared rays. The sensor emits an infrared beam towards the palm of the hand. During this the blood flowing through the veins to the heart with reduced oxygen absorbs this radiation which causes the veins to appear as a black pattern. This pattern is recorded by the sensor and is stored in a database.During the time of identification it compares the vein pattern of the person to be identified with the pattern stored in databse. Vein patterns are unique to each individual, even identical twins have different patterns. And since they exist inside the body, they cannot be stolen thereby making this method of biometric tehnology more secure than others.
